About Shanaka

I’m Shanaka. I’m an Accountant by profession (Member of CPA Australia), a Member of CIMA (United Kingdom), and have an MBA from Australia.  I started my career as a Management Consultant at prestigious Ernst & Young back in Sri Lanka.

Since then, I have worked in the corporate sector as a Senior Financial Analyst, Finance Manager, and Finance Director in Sri Lanka, Australia, and Kenya across various industries. I have worked for reputed IT giants like IBM, Hewlett Packard, and Telstra in senior level roles. My last role was Business Operations Manager in charge of the Asia Pacific and Japan region with Micro Focus (a Large Multinational IT company), where I was in charge of a team of 30, including managerial staff from six countries. Through out my corporate career, I was recognized as a high performer with a great skill for building successful teams. My Corporate career was a fulffilling one, and I was happy.

 

However, on the side, my passion was property. I bought my first investment property when I was 25. I migrated to Australia in 2007, and while working my corporate job, I continued to pursue my passion in property. I was heavily involved in all aspects of property investing and development in Australia from 2007 onwards. Working only a few hours a week, I was able to build an eight-figure property portfolio as a side hustle. Over time, it gave me the financial freedom to quit my corporate career and do what I love most, which is helping people with property.

Working in the corporate sector, I have seen many high-income earners who are very time-poor who often pay high rates of taxes. I have also seen so much potential for them to minimize taxes and create significant wealth without making drastic changes to their lifestyles. Unfortunately, not many take advantage of this opportunity simply because they are too busy or due to lack the necessary guidance.

 

Looking back at my property journey, there were many pitfalls I could have avoided as a novice investor if I had someone to guide me. There were also great opportunities I missed out on simply because I didn’t have expert help when I needed it.

The property buying process isn’t an easy one for many. What to buy, where to buy, how much to pay, and whether it’s the right property are some of the questions most buyers have, on top of having to run around searching for homes, sacrificing weekends with family. Because we all lead very busy lives, all of this makes the property search a very stressful experience for many.

I wanted to help people achieve their property dreams in a seamless, stress-free process while ensuring they buy the best property at the most affordable price possible.
